Preparing you emotionally and physically

Childbirth & Parenting Education Program

These education programs will prepare you emotionally and physically for pregnancy, labour, birth and your early parenting experience. Our educators aim to ensure you and your partner feel confident and informed about pregnancy, birth and parenting, and as prepared as possible.

Optional formats include:

4 week program, held on weeknights over 4 consecutive weeks

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday OR Thursday 7.00-9.00pm

2 Day Consecutive Saturday OR Sunday Program, 9.00am-1.30pm

Cost $330 per couple (Benefits may apply from your health fund)

Aim of Parenting Classes

To enable parents to enjoy their postnatal and early parenting experience, by having confidence and understanding of the issues involved

To develop an understanding of the demands of a new baby at home and strategies to help you both cope to learn about community support available to new parents.

What is covered in the Parenting Classes

  • Care of Mother and Baby after birth
  • What to expect in the first few days
  • The anatomy and physiology of Breastfeeding
  • Attachment & positioning of baby for breastfeeding
  • Hunger cues /sucking patterns/problem patterns
  • Expressing (and storage of breast milk)
  • Normal infant behaviour
  • Sleep, Feed, Quiet time and settling
  • How to settle your baby
  • Becoming a Family
  • Relationship Changes
  • Perinatal anxiety & depression
  • Community Resources
