Surgical Procedures
Westmead Private Hospital undertakes an extensive range of surgical procedures. In particular, the Hospital has positioned itself as a centre of excellence in orthopaedic, urology, ear, nose and throat and general surgery.
Day Surgery
A wide range of day procedures are undertaken in Westmead Private Hospital Day Surgery Unit including endoscopy, colonoscopy, orthopaedic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, eye day surgery and minor general surgery.
Cardiac Catheter Laboratory
Our two state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheter Suites, featuring the most sophisticated, automated digital medical imaging equipment, are fully operational at Westmead Private Hospital. The Laboratories can perform the very latest tests and procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

Cardiology Services
Westmead Private is renowned for its specialised cardiology services. Utilising 23 monitored beds and 2 cardiac catheterisation laboratories. The Cardiovascular Ward is staffed by specialist nurses who care for patient’s pre and post Cath Lab procedures, pre and post cardiac surgeries and medical management of conditions including chest pain, heart failure, arrhythmias etc. Patients and their visitors are well supported and have education provided regarding their condition and management.
Intensive Care Unit
Westmead Private Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU), admits more than 1500 patients annually making it one of the busiest private ICUs in Australia. The ICU provides care for a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions.
Westmead Private ICU is a level 2 unit and is accredited with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for 6 months of advanced training. The unit has a long standing expertise in the management of patients after neurosurgery and open heart surgery and also manages a wide mix of patients after other complex surgery. The 16 bed ICU provides specialised care for patients who require constant monitoring, intensive nursing care and advanced respiratory, cardiac and renal support therapies.
Westmead Private ICU is also one of the few private ICUs specialising in the management of older children (10 years and above) following spinal surgery, thoracic surgery and paediatric surgery. Unique to Westmead Private ICU, two of the Intensive Care Consultants are qualified in Paediatric Intensive Care.
