The gift to swallow restored for Anthony Whitefield at Westmead Private Hospital, a first in Australia

On 5th March, 2014 79 year old Anthony Whitefield underwent ground breaking endoscopic surgery performed by Professor Michael Bourke, Gastroenterologist to help him swallow. For the past 8-10 years Anthony has had trouble swallowing due to a spastic disorder of the lower oesophageal sphincter called Achalasia. So bad were his symptoms that his weight plummeted to less than 49kgs.

First robotic hysterectomy via single site incision in the southern hemisphere performed at Westmead Private Hospital

Children “busked” in Westmead Private Hospital’s Atrium this Christmas to raise funds for Compassion Australia. The children of Hospital paediatrician Dr Daniel Lin raise funds each year to sponsor a child who is less fortunate than them. The hospital kickstarted their fundraising campaign with a donation of $150.

Westmead Private Hospital showed its true colours on Tuesday 25th October with a morning tea in support of the Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon day in the fight against breast cancer.  Most Australians have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. In fact, one in every nine Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85 and by 2015 the number of new breast cancer cases among women is projected to be 22% higher than in 2006, with an estimated 15,409 women expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
