Maternity: Admission Information

Maternity Booking information

How to Book

As soon as your pregnancy has been confirmed and you have booked with an obstetrician, please either complete the on-line maternity booking registration or phone Maternity Bookings for a tentative telephone booking on 8837 9279 during office hours. If you chose the on-line maternity booking registration you will receive an automatic email reply to confirm that your on-line registration has been received.
Your booking is confirmed upon receipt of your patient admission forms (given to you by your obstetrician). This form is required no later than 16 weeks of pregnancy. On receipt of your completed paperwork you will receive a comprehensive information pack regarding your stay at Westmead Private Hospital.

Along with your booking forms we require a booking fee. This fee is payable by credit card or cheque at the time of your Maternity booking. The fee is not charged unless you change hospitals for non-medical reasons.

Once you have completed all the booking requirements, should any details change, please notify us immediately.

For any questions or queries regarding Maternity bookings please contact our maternity bookings officer on 02 8837 9279 or email onlinepread.wmp@ramsayhealth.com.au.

Private health Insurance

Westmead Private Hospital has negotiated agreements with all major health funds to ensure the relevant hospital charges are paid on your behalf. An excess or co-payment may form part of your contract with your health fund.

If you are not privately insured, you will be asked to pay the estimated cost of hospitalisation prior to admission. It is therefore necessary to contact our Maternity Booking Officer (ph: 8837 9279) for an estimate of fees and charges prior to your hospital admission. Payment may be made by cash, cheque or credit card.

Costs for obstetric, anaesthetic and paediatric services are contracted between yourself and the practitioner. Please discuss with the individual specialists the costs that may be incurred.

Previous Medical Treatment

If you have been receiving treatment elsewhere – especially outside Australia – please be sure to advise your specialist.

Important information for your stay

Valuables - We encourage you to leave anything of value, such as jewellery, at home. Westmead Private Hospital is unable to accept responsibility for the loss of valuables or money.
Mobile Phones - Mobile phones can interfere with electronic medical equipment so we ask that you consult with ward staff prior to using them within the hospital complex.
Film equipment in Birth Suite and the Operating Theatre - Ramsay Health Care recognises that unique and special moments arise in hospital that patients, families and friends may wish to capture on film.  Westmead Private Hospital needs to ensure that patient safety, clinical teamwork, the privacy of other patients, staff members and medical personnel are not compromised.  Devices that record both film and sound are not allowed in the operating suite, birth suites or special care nursery.
Single shot devices that do not record sound are permissible by the agreement of the care team members present at the time.
Film and sound may be recorded in the privacy of a patient’s own room, provided the privacy of other patients and staff members is not compromised.
Medication - Please bring all medications you are currently taking in their original containers, clearly labelled and any repeat prescriptions.  All medications required during your stay will be administered either by the nursing staff or following assessment for the “self medication program”.
Smoke-Free Environment - We ask all patients and visitors to respect our smoke-free policy whilst within the hospital complex and grounds.

Postnatal care - helping you care for your baby

During your stay you will be guided by our midwives in baby bathing, dressing and settling techniques. Midwives will assist and support you in establishing the feeding method of your choice for your baby. Extra support is also provided by our lactation specialists.
We recognise that your family and friends are very excited about the new arrival and they provide valuable support for you and your partner. Our visiting hours are between 11am- 12noon and 6pm -8pm. We ask that you inform your visitors of these times and encourage them to visit during these times as you will want to attend education classes, establish feeding and rest.

Special Care Nursery

Westmead Private Hospital provides you with the reassurance that should your baby require intensive care support, a specially equipped Special Care Nursery is available. In the event of a baby being born prematurely or very ill, transfer to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit can be effected without delay. Please contact your health fund provider to confirm your level of cover for your baby if the Special Care Nursery is required during your admission.

Just for you

Westmead Private Hospital offers a personalised baby photography service. We also offer wireless internet access and have an internet kiosk. More information on all of these services will be available during your stay.
