Maternity: Our Facilities & Services
Our Facilities & Services
Having a baby is one of the most important events in your life and every birth is unique. Your care whilst in WPH is co-ordinated by your Obstetrician. WPH encourages women and families to have flexibility and choice with a focus on individualised care. Our Maternity Unit consists of the following:
The Maternity Unit comprises:
- 4 birthing suites
- One private assessment room
- Maternity ward
- Special Care Nursery
- Lounge for parents and/or patients
- An education room
Birth Suite
The Birth Suite has four large modern birthing rooms and one assessment/birthing room that ensures a personal and safe environment for your birthing experience. Each suite features a large ensuite including spacious spa bath and shower facilities.
Antenatal / Postnatal Unit
This Unit has 27 beds, nine of which are double beds. There are both single and shared rooms available with every effort made to accommodate your requirements. We also offer a Parent Education Room and a Well Baby Nursery.
Well Baby Nursery (Wombat)
A Well Baby Nursery is available to provide mothers with “time out” overnight if required. There is a limit on the number of babies in the nursery at any one time and it is expected that the babies will return to their mother for feeding.
Special Care Nursery
The Special Care Nursery is a Level 2 nursery providing any extra care and support that may be required. In the event of a baby being born prematurely or unwell, transfer to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit can be organised without delay.
Maternity Tours
Tours are held twice a week. This is a comprehensive tour of all areas within the Maternity Unit and hospital. The tours are held:

In addition, individual consultation can be arranged for specific musculoskeletal and/or continence problems (there may be a cost involved with individual consultations). Outpatient physiotherapy can be arranged through Westmead Private Physiotherapy Services at their Blacktown (9672 3511) or Penrith (4721 5788) rooms both during your pregnancy and after your discharge from hospital.
