Gideon is an Adult & Paediatric Surgeon at Westmead Hospital, The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Westmead Private Hospital. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.
Achieving his medical degree through the University of New South Wales in 2002, Gideon completed both Adult (2013) and Paediatric (2015) Surgical Fellowships through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This was followed by further training in Adult and Paediatric Surgical Oncology and Head & Neck Surgery at Westmead Hospital in Sydney (2016), and MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas (2017/18).
Gideon is involved in the Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Program at Westmead Hospital and interested in Transitional Care for paediatric surgical patients into adulthood. He is also interested in Regional and Rural Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Surgery in the Pacific Region.
His research interests include Adult & Paediatric Surgical Oncology, Head & Neck Surgery and Trauma. He has published and presented on these topics both locally and overseas. As a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney he regularly teaches medical students and junior doctors, taking a special interest in helping surgical trainees to get through their fellowship exams.
Gideon is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Paediatric Surgeons (ANZAPS), International Society of Pediatric Surgical Oncology (IPSO), Société Internationale D’oncologie Pédiatrique (SIOP), Children’s Oncology Group (COG), Australian Sarcoma Study Group (ASSG) and the Australian and New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society (ANZHNCS).
He is a keen recreational pilot, ocean swimmer and surfer, and a poor guitarist. His greatest joy is to spend time with his wife and children, which he does every chance he gets.
