Westmead Private Hospital Celebrates 10 Years

Westmead Private Hospital celebrated 10 years since opening on 8 October 2000 and hosted a high tea with Parramatta City Lord Mayor John Chedid and some of the first babies delivered at the hospital now turning 10 years old.

Since 8 October 2000, over 18,000 babies have been born and over 192,000 people (including babies) have been patients at Westmead Private Hospital, which has been owned by Ramsay Health Care since 2001.

Westmead Private CEO Carol Bryant said the hospital had established a strong reputation in Western Sydney for the provision of excellent medical, surgical and maternity services to the community. 

“We are proud that over the last 10 years we have been able to offer an extensive range of services to the people of Western Sydney in state-of-the-art facilities,” Ms Bryant said.

“Our reputation in a wide range of surgical specialties including cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and maternity services is now strongly developed and patients do not need to travel into Sydney city to get the best private health care services and access to some of the State’s best specialists.”

Over the past 10 years the hospital has introduced day oncology services (2001), neurosurgery (2002) and with the demand for surgery increasing and over 116,000 procedures done over the past decade, a 9th operating theatre was added in 2007.

The hospital has also recently upgraded the cardiac catheter laboratory with state of the art biplane flat panel angiography with 3 dimensional CT capabilities.

A further major development is currently underway at Westmead Private which will includes the construction of a new maternity wing with all private rooms and ensuites as well as some further inpatients beds, critical care and special care nursery beds.
