Under the Direct to Hospital GP Admission patients are managed by a General Physician in hospital with a multi-disciplinary approach to their care. Patients we commonly treat in our Medical Admissions Ward include:
- Wound management (IV antibiotics, dressings)
- UTI (requiring IV antibiotics)
- Ulcers & cellulitis
- Dehydration
- Gout
- Pyelonephritis
- Respiratory conditions such as pneumonia
- Anaemia-Investigation
- Rheumatology and endocrinology issues
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Patients who have experienced falls
Examples of admissions that are not suitable for the Medical Admissions Ward include:
- Acute surgical abdomens
- Patients with chest pain
- Patients suspected of a heart attack or other conditions which require intensive workup
- Rehabilitation and respite
- Patients exhibiting violent behaviour
- Patients under the age of 16
- Patients classified under the Mental Health Act.
Patients over the age of 80 or requiring significant allied health input, will need to be screened.
