Dr Ewan MacDermid is a General Surgeon based in Western Sydney. His specialist interests include minimally invasive (keyhole) and open surgery for a wide variety of conditions including bowel and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anal conditions such as haemorrhoids and fistulas, hernias and gallstones. Ewan graduated from medical school at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland before completing general surgical training in Western Sydney. After becoming a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019 Ewan then undertook sub-specialist training in colorectal surgery at Royal North Shore, Nepean and Bankstown-Lidcombe hospitals with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).

Ewan has also carried out and supervised award-winning cancer research, and in 2018 he received the Mark Killingback Prize for his work examining socioeconomic differences in colorectal cancer in Western Sydney. He was also awarded a Masters of Surgery in 2011 at the University of Sydney, where he is now a clinical lecturer. In addition to his affiliation with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) he is a member of General Surgeons Australia (GSA) and is accredited by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) to perform adult gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
