Carsten Palme is an Otolaryngology Head Neck Surgeon and Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery at the University of Sydney with 20 years of experience. He is the Head of ENT at Westmead Private Hospital, the Director of Head and Neck Surgery at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and a senior member of the Head and Neck Service, Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre, Westmead Hospital.
A/Prof Palme is an expert in thyroid/parathyroid surgery, skin cancer, head and neck cancer and has extensive experience in minimally invasive approaches including laser and robotic surgery.
A/Prof Palme is active in both research and education and leads the head and neck fellowship program at Westmead Hospital. A/Prof Palme is a foundation director at BeyondFive ( www.beyondfive.org.au ), a not for profit organisation for head neck cancer research and education. A/Prof Palme has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, written many book chapters and recently edited a book on skin cancer of the head neck. A/Prof Palme is the inaugural recipient in 2009 of the Chris O’Brien Travelling Fellowship Award. In 2011 A/Prof Palme was awarded the Coman Kennedy Laser Scholarship. In 2012 the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons presented A/Prof Palme with a “ Certificate of Outstanding Services “.
A/Prof Palme is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Head and Neck Surgery, the American Head and Neck Surgery Society and the Laryngological Society of Australia.
