Dr Prayatna (Yana) Shetty is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with an interest in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. Maternal and Fetal medicine is a highly specialized field of obstetrics. This qualification requires a minimum of further three years of specialised training in various aspects of medical and fetal conditions in pregnancy as well as fetal ultrasound.
Dr Shetty works as a specialist consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine Department at Westmead Public Hospital where she runs a high-risk pregnancy clinic as well as provides tertiary fetal ultrasound services to women. She also provides private obstetrics care at Westmead Private Hospital.
After finishing her MD (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) from the prestigious University of Kolkata in India where she received the highest academic medal, Dr Shetty moved to the UK and worked at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. She then moved to Australia and obtained her Fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG).
Her desire to help women going through difficult pregnancies, led Dr Shetty to pursue subspecialist training in the field of Maternal and Fetal medicine (CMFM). Dr Shetty believes in offering management according to the latest evidence-based medicine and is actively involved in research and training and has several publications to her credit. Dr Shetty is also involved in obstetrics policy and guideline development at Westmead as well as across the state of New South Wales. Her main interests include fetal growth restriction, pre-ecclampsia, preterm birth, twins and triplets and medical conditions in pregnancy.
Dr Shetty believes that her job is to guide her patients make an informed decision about the optimum care in their pregnancy. Over the years, she has helped many women achieve their desired goals through mutual discussion and decision making.
