Dr Thakkar is a Cardiologist with an interest in adult general cardiology and coronary intervention.
He graduated in 2003 and underwent cardiology training at Westmead Public and Royal Darwin Hospitals. He was awarded fellowship with The Royal Australasian College in 2012. Passionate about his work, he undertook an advanced Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the world renowned Vancouver General Hospital (Vancouver, Canada).
Dr Thakkar maintains keen interest in academia and has published widely. He is a Research Fellow at The University of Sydney, WARC (Westmead Applied Research Centre) and The George Institute for Global Health; developing mobile phone technology for cardiac rehabilitation of patients with coronary artery disease.
Dr Thakkar's practice encompasses all aspects of adult cardiology, with interests in:
- Acute coronary syndrome, Valvular heart diseases, & Arrhythmia.
- Coronary angiography & stenting
- Rotablation (drilling calcium deposits in stiff blockages)
- Coronary artery imaging using OCT (infrared light) and IVUS (ultrasound)
- Exercise stress testing
- Echocardiography & Stress echocardiography
