Dr Daniel Chia is an Australian trained urological surgeon dedicated to comprehensive, exceptional and personalised care of his patients. He has a sub-specialty interest in uro-oncology, advanced stone disease, and benign prostate conditions.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and Masters of Surgery, he underwent advanced urology training across teaching hospitals in NSW before being awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Following completion of his urology training, he embarked on a prestigious subspecialty fellowship in uro-oncology at the Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, United Kingdom. Renowned as a high volume cancer referral centre, he received further training in robotic urological cancer surgery and complex open urological procedures. During this time he also undertook further training in HOLEP for benign prostate conditions, and PCNLs for advanced stone disease.
He was further invited to extend his tenure as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, which he undertook for a year prior to returning home to Australia. Since returning he has been a consultant urologist at Westmead Hospital and Hawkesbury District Hospital.
Dr Chia treats all urological cancers and general urological conditions. He is committed to teaching and throughout his career, has been involved in the clinical training of medical students, nursing and allied health staff, junior doctors and urology registrars and fellows in the UK and Australia. He has also been a trainer and faculty in robotic workshops and training consultants from various surgical specialities in robotic surgery. This includes being involved in the first live surgery with a new robotic platform in the UK.
He is active in research and has presented nationally and internationally, and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and articles, book chapters, and case reports. Dr Chia has also published on non-technical aspects such as supporting doctors and colleagues after adverse outcomes.
